When I started writing about Marie-Thérèse, the daughter of Queen Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI of France, I discovered many unexpected facts - including the preponderance of kings named "Louis" (including 16's father, brother and son).
(Louis XVI - he looks like my dad!)
What's up with that? I wondered. How many are there? I furthered. And how do I keep them straight?
And I was off and running. Or rather - off and rhyming.
Then I realized I'd never get the rights for this rock classic.
So I tried on a French kiddie song. Sing along!
A Lotta Louis’s
Gotta Lotta Louis’s
Kings of France
They really love the name
History says there were 18
Technically, there were 18
But count 'em all, when you’re done
You will find 21
Oh oh oh -
A Lotta Louis’s
Gotta Lotta Louis’s
Kings of France
Let’s play the naming game
Clovis was the first Louis
Changed his name by droppin' the "C"
Founded France, was a hero
Me, I call him Louis Zero
When we’re done, 21
Oh oh oh -
A Lotta Louis’s
Gotta Lotta Louis’s
Kings of France
Learn how they got their fame.
Charlemagne he had a son
He was Louis Number One
Also known as the Pious
Cause he was a real good guy-us
Clovis hero, Louis Zero
When we’re done, 21
Oh oh oh
A Lotta Louis’s
Gotta Lotta Louis’s
Kings of France
Some were kind of lame.
Louis’s two through five did squat
Louis Six he did a lot
And then he’d eat, so him we know
As Louis the Fat, Louis le Gros
One’s a good guy-as, Louis the Pious
Clovis hero, Louis Zero
When we’re done, 21
Oh oh oh -
A Lotta Louis’s
Gotta Lotta Louis’s
Kings of France
No, they’re not the same!
