Making Ripples

Sometimes, we're so fixated on making big waves,

we forget how important the ripples can be.

When I was making my play Unsung (Inconnue in French) for the Château de La Napoule, I shamelessly blogged, posted and emailed about it.

That’s what you’re supposed to do. Blast it out. Sell tickets. Get the next gig.

Often, I didn’t enjoy doing it. Well, actually - most of the time.

Then, one day – I made someone’s day.

After I spewed out yet another "me me me" post, Sheila Doucet, who I met briefly in Paris months earlier, sent me this note:
“My 95-year-old dad, James Lynch, performed with the Army's Negro Spiritual Choir back in 1952 at Château de la Napoule, Here is his program, with a hand-written dedication by Mrs. Clews.

OH MY GOD! A TRUE RELIC ! FROM MARIE'S OWN HAND! SO COOL!

“I shared with him your YouTube preview video. He was so thrilled to walk down that particular memory lane!
"In a sense, he relived the entire journey from their small base somewhere outside of Bordeaux to La Côte d'Azur at the invitation of the British Allies for the evening.

“They took advantage of the five-day trip to visit sites, make friends – and create lifelong memories."

Look at the names of these soldiers, of the committee members who made this performance happen.

Maybe one of them - or their children or grandchildren -

will read this and relive a memory -

or reconnect with each other?

"Thanks for allowing me to share with him YOUR video with him. He LOVED hearing the story."

No, Sheila - THANK YOU.

THIS IS WHY I DO WHAT I DO.

Connection. Meaning. Joy.

And this keeps me doing it.

WHAT KEEPS YOU "DOING IT"?

I’d love to hear your stories of how you unexpectedly touched someone. Please share below. You'll inspire me, and others.
