What Did I Learn - Wales Day 2

1) Welsh is a bear.

The language, I mean.

What I learned today: when you have two l's together, you pronounce it like a lateral lisp!

Very slushy.

Llandudno - Shlan-doohd-noh.

Llewellyn - Shloo-ell-shlyn.

And two dd's are '"th" - Gwynnedd - Gwynneth.

2) English seaside resorts are fun!

Could this really be my first?

They sell furniture on the pier. Natural fit, right? But it's fun!

3) A SIGN?

Is this bench telling me it's time to get back to Joy, my très enthusiastic tour guide? Maybe she'll show up with an irritating bunch of Americans here in Wales, like she did last year on our Massif Central road trip in France.

4) Alice doesn't live here anymore.

But she did summer here in the 1800's. Yes, that Alice. And they milk it for all it's worth.

6) No, you're not the Queen of Roumania - SHE was.

Where did that expression come from?

If you tell a whopper of a lie to someone, their comeback is, "And I'm the Queen of Rumania."

Well, originally Elizabeth of Wied could have been the Princess of Wales. Queen Victoria liked her for the part, but her son, when he saw her photos, said no way.

Poor girl. I think she passes muster.

She married just fine.

BTW, she spent 5 weeks in Lladudno, calling it "a beautiful haven of peace." Which is now their slogan!
