Who Knew? (Paris Day 2 of 7)

Today - THREE B'S!

WHAT ARE THEY?

READ ON.

I was delighted to discover THREE wonders in my temporary neighborhood.
Two I knew already.
But I'll lead off with the new one - and the first "B."

WHO KNEW the best flan in Paris would come from a small BOULANGERIE deep in the 14th arrondissement - around the corner from our Air BnB?
Yes, it's cut in squares.
Yes, it's the creamiest flan I've ever had.
Yes, it didn't win last year, but it did twice before - and won me over for sure!
For me, it was a true "Agitateur des Papilles"

What is THAT? you cry.
I saw that phrase once on a delivery truck for an epicerie, a designer deli. Translation: Agitator of Taste Buds
HA!

If you're near Alésia (and Rue des Plantes) check out Maison Largesse!

On a deeper note (though my experience with the flan was semi-religious), I was delighted to discover that TWO OF MY FAVORITE PLACES in Paris were a five-minute walk from my Air BnB.

THE 2ND B is for BOOKS - the Oxfam used bookstore on Rue Daguerre.

In the past, I've gone wayyyy out of my way to visit this used bookstore.

They actually have books I want to read. About eight shelves of them.
And it's for a good cause.

And two blocks up the road, I was thrilled to discover something I love EVEN MORE:

La Cimitière Montparnasse!

Yes, the 3rd "B" is for bodies.

I'm a sucker for a cemetery. It's got it all - love, loss, mortality, unexpected touches of beauty, even humor. I mean, how can you resist smiling at that tombstone?

WHO KNEW all the amazing people buried there?

Baudelaire, Bartholdi, Beckett, Belmondo. de Beauvoir, Brancusi, Brassaï -

And those are just some of the Biggest and Best of the B's!

However, the map was seriously confusing. So guess how many BIGGIES I found?

NONE!!

I ran out of time that morning and never had time to get back.
I think there's a lesson here -Tempus fugit and all (time flies/mortality) -

As they say in France, à suivre (to be continued)...
